ABOUT GORDON GALLERY:

The gallery is an outgrowth of my passion for collecting and studying contemporary self-taught/folk/outsider/vernacular art. I found this work, with its immediacy, inventiveness, and singular power, being made outside of an academy or career track, to be a source of renewal and revelation after two years of graduate study in poetry at the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop. Though a relative newcomer to the field, I count many veteran dealers and collectors as friends, mentors, and clients, and share their same concerns for, and love of, authenticity and formal beauty.

Gordon Gallery exists here on the site, and in the home I share with my wife Pamela and two children in Nashville, Tennessee. I am also a musician and songwriter; click here for a look at the "other life". I often supplement my tour schedule with visits to local artists wherever I'm traveling.

Thanks for your interest.

Kevin Gordon

ARTIST SUBMISSIONS: First of all, THANK YOU for your interest. Though I consider it a vital mission of the gallery to remain open to new work, most of the inquiries we receive seem to come from folks who probably haven't looked at the inventory here. Please look closely at what I am offering--most of it is "old school", hardcore work, done by a generation of people who didn't or don't have access to contemporary technology like cell phones or computers. Not that there's anything wrong with those things . . . it's a specialization, not a prejudice. Also, most of the artists whose work I carry are established in the field--breaking a new artist requires more resources, energy, and time than I have at this point. Please contact us before sending JPEGs, etc.; I am usually happy to take a look--if it's not for us, sometimes I can recommend another, more suitable gallery.
